Lenovo laptop keeps shutting down for no reason?

My lenovo laptop keeps shutting down for no reason?
It doesn't like log off or anything, just all of a sudden every now and then the screen will just go black and that's that. I turn it back on and it works fine again and everything i'm just wondering what could be causing it?

This is symptomatic of overheating. The absense of air movement from the cooling fan would be an indication of a failure of the fan. This can be checked rather easily on your model. In the Hardware Maintenance Manual, on page 57 , it shows how to access the cooling fan. Here is the manual provided in the link. Also, A diagnistic CD is helpful because it doesn't load the same drivers as the installed O/S does, and if the crash doesn't appear, it's depending on the O/S and not on hardware. If the unit still crashes, it's hardware-related. Good diagnostic CDs can be found to download, perhaps one of the best is Knoppix (www.knoppix.org), which is a Linux based O/S that runs only from the CD - no installation required. A heat issue can appear quickly, even if the fan works OK, if the heatsink isn't tight on the CPU chip for some reason. Try entering BIOS setup and leave the unit there for a few minutes. If the crash happens there, it's hardware- or heat-related. /RID

Somehow you might have lost or removed your sound driver. If you don't have a sound driver disk I'm positive you could download it offline.
2 :
You should try using a different browser (IE, Firefox or Chrome) and see if it works with you-tube. Also, make sure to access the sound preferences from your task bar (right corner next to the clock). If all else fails, go to control panel, system, device manager and find your audio card driver. Right click - uninstall and restart your computer. Once rebooted your sound drivers should re-install automatically. Good luck.

Log on to an administrator account. Download/install these programs and restart. http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ © arou42

Lenovo laptop with PC DOS

I have a Lenovo laptop with PC DOS, how do I install the drivers from CD provided?
When I install Windows 98, everything goes smoothly but get stuck at the point of asking for the drivers. At the time of installing Windows 98, Windows setup does not recongnise the CD-ROM drive. I boot the system with a bootable CD that allows me to access the CD-ROM drive.

I would add a folder with a cdrom.sys file and Mscdex.exe in it and create or modify "Autoexec.bat" and Config.sys"to load drivers for your cdrom in DOS. That would do it. Avatarxz

Free Dos or PC DOS whatever is preinstalled in your Lenovo laptop is just fine I would presume it already has all device drivers pre-loaded If this a current purchase, i am not quite sure windows 98 would be suitable. windows xp-home would be better now, dealing with your windows 98 installation: boot up your laptop normally, from hard drive i mean < not from cd > assuming your hard drive is not partitioned, its drive letter is c: & d: is drive letter for cd-rom once booted, you should be able to get the dos prompt insert your windows 98 cd into cd-rom tray d:/ install command should start installation of windows 98 else check exact file name, d:/dir > this should tell you exact file name, instal or install or setup whatever this way it should work do let me know > if it does not, maybe we'll try some other way best of luck on that

Lenovo Y430 laptop

What would happen if I remove the program SwelCntr from Lenovo Y430 laptop?
I've been looking at this annoying splash screen everytime I boot up. In control panel, this program takes up 8 gigabytes of space on my laptop. Is this really vital for the laptop?

Nope. The only things required for it are the operating system itself, and the button drivers for the special functions and media control
