you will need to disassemble the computer and remove the rom. disassemble the rom. You could shake it on its side until you can manage to get a hold of the disk. Really no other way of going about it.

How can I make my Lenovo Windows Vista laptop run faster?

How can I make my Lenovo Windows Vista laptop run faster?
I purchased my Lenovo laptop in August & it is beginning to run slow already :( Is there something I can do to make my computer run faster? I know I can close processes using the task manager and use the disk clean up. Is there a way to permanently make it run faster? I also do not want to go out & purchase anything, I am stuck with what I've got thanks :)

make sure your virus is on and scanning and their is no suspicious material. Defrag and clean your registry, using a free download like ccleaner and under control panel remove programs you never use or programs that the manufacturer includes for an outside company those just take up space.

The best thing is to upgrade the ram. Without buying anything, clean up everything (try CCleaner): http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ You could also uninstall unwanted programs or stop them from opening at startup. Hope this helps!

The most obvious answer here is to add more RAM. But you said you didn't want to purchase anything, so I guess that's out of the question. Unfortunately, there is no way to permanently speed up your machine without upgrading the hardware. And with a laptop, the only thing you usually can upgrade is the RAM. Everything else you're pretty much stuck with. You could download a clean-up program. I use CCleaner. It's free and it's great. I just run it every now and then (even though my laptop isn't slow at all) just to make sure all the unused rubbish is being cleared out. Get it here: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Another option is to disable all visual effects on your machine. You don't say whether you have XP or Vista, but Vista especially will gobble up a lot of memory with all its transparency effects. You could switch to the Vista Basic theme and you should see a noticeable improvement. Bear in mind that Vista requires a minimum of 2GB of RAM to run smoothly. They receommend 1GB but I've tried that and it was horrendous. I now have 3GB. Also, even though it's less resource-hungry than Vista, any kind of fancy visual effects in XP, ie. fading or scrolling menus, etc. will still use some of your memory. So switch to the most basic theme so all of your memory can be allocated to tasks instead of visual appearance.

There are a bunch of ways that you can speed up your computer. In fact you can get your computer back to it's "brand new" speed without buying any new hardware. Here are some tips: http://www.ehow.com/how_2275357_computer-run-faster.html

If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task. First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it. http://www.delete-computer-history.com/what-is-the-best-registry-cleaner.html 2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how: 1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser 2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options". 3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files. 4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK. 5. Click OK. 3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how: 1. Open your Start menu. 2. Click Run 3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe" 4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab 5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using. 6. Click "OK"

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow". Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically! There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners. http://www.speed-up-your-pc.com/ You can download and scan your computer for free.

1. Disable Indexing Services Indexing Services is a small little program that uses large amounts of RAM and can often make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. This system process indexes and updates lists of all the files that are on your computer. It does this so that when you do a search for something on your computer, it will search faster by scanning the index lists. If you donĂ¢€™t search your computer often, or even if you do search often, this system service is completely unnecessary. To disable do the following: Go to Start Click Settings Click Control Panel Double-click Add/Remove Programs Click the Add/Remove Window Components Uncheck the Indexing services Click Next 2. Optimise Display Settings Windows XP can look sexy but displaying all the visual items can waste system resources. To optimise: Go to Start Click Settings Click Control Panel Click System Click Advanced tab In the Performance tab click Settings Leave only the following ticked: Show shadows under menus Show shadows under mouse pointer Show translucent selection rectangle Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop Use visual styles on windows and buttons 3. Cleaner Registry Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer! Lots of things get saved on your PC that you don't need. Some are benign. Some slow you down. And some let prying eyes track what you do on your PC. install Registry cleaner and run daily Use the tool: http://downloadlk.com/themosteffectiveregistrycleaner.htm [if you do not have one]

You can get something called PartitionMagic, but it will cost some money.
2 :
If you want a free tool, download Ubuntu Linux. The install CD has a utility that will let you shrink down your existing XP partition and free up space for a new installation of Ubuntu. Run the utility, shrink the partition, then quit without installing Ubuntu. (unless you're doing this so you can install Linux, that is)
