Umm... Sharing files over a local network? Dropbox, Skydrive, set up FTP service on all three computers, use Windows Meeting Space or something similar. The last one is probably the simpler to get to work if you don't have much experience with this.

Recovering from Lenovo laptop hardrive?

Recovering from Lenovo laptop hardrive?
Recently, my Lenovo ThinkPad W500 (about 2-3 years old) stopped working. It crashed and since then will not power on. If I want to recover files from the hard drive (provided that it is not the hard drive that is fried), which hard drive adapter will I need/will be best for me, and how should I go about recovering these files and placing them onto a new laptop?

any would work really. its just personal preference. the adapter i personally use is an bt-300 by topmicrousa. it works really well and it transfers at amazing fast speeds. you just need to connect the hard drive to the device and copy and paste. its pretty easy ! if you have any further questions or need more help, feel free to email me and i will do my best to help \(^_^)/

You will have to purchase a 2.5 inch HDD USB casing. Remove the HDD and install in the casing. connect to a working computer through the USB port. It will appear as a separate drive. You can copy and paste all files. In case there is some damage to the HDD try Linux OS for recovery. Here is one example casing :http://cgi.ebay.com/Silverstone-TS04B-USB3-0-2-5inch-SSD-HDD-Enclosure-/330525848426?pt=PCC_Drives_Storage_Internal&hash=item4cf4e0336a

I also have a lenovo 3000 v100. Look in your programs list. The fingerprint reader driver is Omnipass, and the camera driver is BisonCam. It is possible that you will have to go to the control panel to access the settings for these things. The reason my reply isn't more detailed is because when I first got my computer back in April, I had Vista Business loaded. With Vista, there were no functioning BisonCam drivers. Later I installed XP, and BisonCam works fine. I simply don't know if Lenovo even has working drivers yet. If you do not have Omnipass installed, you should know that Lenovo refuses to provide replacement copies of the Omnipass software, say, if you deleted it or re-installed the OS. If you have any problems with Omnipass in that regard, send me an email via my Answers profile.

Unless I'm traveling, my Lenovo is always plugged in. Lenovo Power Manager allows you to set the charger to not charge unless it is 95% or below. Seriously after looking at the other answers, I have been using my Lenovo for almost 2 years now. Lenovo Power Manager controls when the battery is charging/not charging. Leaving your Lenovo plugged in will not harm the battery as it will only charge when it is at 95% or below.

Batteries can take anywhere from 2-8 hours to charge completely depending on the capacity. Your laptop should have a red/green light display while your computer is charging, which then turns green/blue when it is completed. The old NiCad rechargeable batteries had "capacity memory" in them. I believe it was a safety feature to prevent the battery from over-charging. However, it backfired in that if you didn't charge the battery to its complete level then that incomplete level of charge would become your new "maximum charge" level. Now-a-days rechargeable batteries are based on lithium-ion which do not have this problem. While it is still a good practice to drain the battery completely and then charge it up completely, it is not fully necessary and can even hurt your laptop's battery if you do it too much. Always charge to the maximum level whenever possible, but you do not necessarily need to drain it all the way every single time you use it. Apple designed a hardware implement to actually cut power off to the battery if the battery was charged. This allowed them to get outstanding longevity from batteries in their devices. Other laptop manufacturers just run continuous current through the battery to keep the battery charged at its maximum level at all times. Because the current runs through the battery constantly, it drains the longevity of the battery. Certainly don't leave your laptop plugged in ALL the time, but you don't worry about trying to make sure you unplug the computer if it completes charging. Maybe once every 2-4 weeks you can drain the battery completely.

Use the manufacturer instructions you got with the laptop. Otherwise use those general instructions: charge it for 24 hours (without turning it on) then turn it on, unplug it an let it charge off until the battery ends. Afterwords charge it as needed until it fully charges, about a couple of hours each time, and try turning it off before it runs out of power.
