What are the best laptop brands among HP, Dell, Acer, Sony, Lenovo?
I'm looking for a new affordable laptop since my 4-5 year old one is dying out. What are some good laptops nowadays among Dell, HP, Acer, Sony, Lenovo or any other popular brands out there I didn't list? I'm looking for either a 13in or a 15 in screen and no more than 500-600 dollars.

I recommend the HP G60-530US Laptop, which has a 15.6 inch screen. You have to check what kind of graphic card you have installed on your Lenovo laptop. Is it a Intel GMA, Radeon, or Nvidia. They all have a different software that lets you control the contrast and color of your video. I don't know what you have but you can easily check yourself by right clicking on your desktop to see a Nvidia or ATI control panel. If none of those appears, right click on your desktop and go to personalize. Then go to Display to see what graphics you have. (Off my head, my brother is on the Vista laptop, I use XP MCE)

My birthday is in April and I ask for what I want in January. What kind of laptop should I get. Like which series by which company? I want something that looks nice and is under $550. I have Lenovo R61 Laptop and LG Flatron Plus TV purchased on 2004. I want to connect my Laptop screen with TV. Therefore, I have purchased one VGA - RCA cable ( VGA connected with Laptop and RCA to TV). Thereafter I changed from TV to AV mode via remote. But nothing is showing on TV screen. Please help me what are the steps I need to perform, including resolution or other graphics set.. Thanks in advance.

Hello L2theL: No, absolutely not. I would never in my life recommend this to any individual for whatever reason. First, they are different brands for a reason. Its like using a energizer battery in place of a car battery. Second, the voltage, amperage, and connector tip is very different in most cases. Third, to save money on a charger and risk the possibility of damaging your laptop is definitely not worth it. I would just recommend you get a new charger, one for your laptop specifically. If you are worried about pricing and quality, you shouldn't. Many great online stores like Topmic have great services and durable products so you don't need to worry. You can find them via Google Search. They have something called lifetime warranty, which means if it breaks, any time, they replace it for free. It breaks again? Another free replacement. Over and over for a lifetime. They also include free shipping and 30 day full refund which is nice. I would never suggest you use another charger brand, especially if they just "look" alike for your laptop. Risking the possibility of starting a fire or frying your motherboard is never a good thought. Best of luck.

its not about the brand its about the quality there are some laptops that have like the same quality and stuffs but their price have a big difference cause of the brand. there are really some items that are expensive because of their brand names.

Not easily since you will need to reinstall your OS. Just purchase a USB 2.0 external hard drive and you will be set.

For a laptop, you'll probably need to get an external hard drive. You should be able to pick up a 500GB drive for around $149 at most places now.

i am searching for a cheap computer that can run minecraft and or runescape. it is mainly going to be used for gaming, surfing the web, and social networks such as facebook.. i would like to know if it would be suitable for games.

Basically, if it's a CHEAP laptop, it's not meant for Gaming. You have to see the minimum specifications (or recommended) for the games, and check the graphic card on your laptop, and then see if it can run it or not (or post another question with those information)

I accidentally clicked like ctrl, alt, windows button, or some combination of the sort, and now a small light as appeared on the top of my laptop. There's like a picture of a sun right below the light. how do i disable this? I don't think I have a webcam.....

Umm... Sharing files over a local network? Dropbox, Skydrive, set up FTP service on all three computers, use Windows Meeting Space or something similar. The last one is probably the simpler to get to work if you don't have much experience with this.

Recently, my Lenovo ThinkPad W500 (about 2-3 years old) stopped working. It crashed and since then will not power on. If I want to recover files from the hard drive (provided that it is not the hard drive that is fried), which hard drive adapter will I need/will be best for me, and how should I go about recovering these files and placing them onto a new laptop?

any would work really. its just personal preference. the adapter i personally use is an bt-300 by topmicrousa. it works really well and it transfers at amazing fast speeds. you just need to connect the hard drive to the device and copy and paste. its pretty easy ! if you have any further questions or need more help, feel free to email me and i will do my best to help \(^_^)/

I also have a lenovo 3000 v100. Look in your programs list. The fingerprint reader driver is Omnipass, and the camera driver is BisonCam. It is possible that you will have to go to the control panel to access the settings for these things. The reason my reply isn't more detailed is because when I first got my computer back in April, I had Vista Business loaded. With Vista, there were no functioning BisonCam drivers. Later I installed XP, and BisonCam works fine. I simply don't know if Lenovo even has working drivers yet. If you do not have Omnipass installed, you should know that Lenovo refuses to provide replacement copies of the Omnipass software, say, if you deleted it or re-installed the OS. If you have any problems with Omnipass in that regard, send me an email via my Answers profile.

Unless I'm traveling, my Lenovo is always plugged in. Lenovo Power Manager allows you to set the charger to not charge unless it is 95% or below. Seriously after looking at the other answers, I have been using my Lenovo for almost 2 years now. Lenovo Power Manager controls when the battery is charging/not charging. Maybe once every 2-4 weeks you can drain the battery completely.

Unless I'm traveling, my Lenovo is always plugged in. Lenovo Power Manager allows you to set the charger to not charge unless it is 95% or below. How long does a Lenovo X60 laptop last?
my school has laptops that they give to all the students. Now mine and others is starting to fall apart. The stylus isn't working, stuff falling off...stuff like that. My question is how long do these laptops last? the school has had them for around 3 years. I don't want to pay for a new one(they charge us if they break) if its time for a new laptop!!

I got a lenovo laptop and the monitor is broke?
i got a lenovo laptop and the monitor is broke?
i can turn it on but the screen is broke . so i cant change the settings to use a regular monitor . is there any other way i can make it work? if not is there a way to replace the laptop monitor ?? i wonder if i cut the wires to the monitor will that work? tyvm for the help

Contact the support were you bought the laptop. If under warranty they will fix it or charge you.

if the laptop is new then return it to the retailer they have to repair or replace it by law if the laptop is second hand and you knew of the broken screen before hand then you should be able to sort it out so log as the laptop boots into windows (which i appreciate you can't see right now) you simply connect the laptop using the external connection (DVI or VGA) the screen should be detected and then ask you if you want to use the external screen as a desktop extension or as the main screen

I beleive you can buy a parallel port that plugs into the usb port of your laptop, or you can buy a small print server box, which has two ports on it, one network port for an ethernet cable to your router, and has a parallel port to connect to your printer, quite a common piece of kit in small offices.

Lenovo Y650 Ideapad laptop
Is it illegal to run Leopard OS X or any other Macintosh OS on a Lenovo Y650 Ideapad laptop?
I don't know if it is illegal or not but I heard that you could run Leapard OS X or any other macintosh OS on a Lenovo Y650. I don't know if it is true or not. Somebody please answer my question. The reason why I asked this question is because i want to make my own ipod touch applications with Apple SDK programming, and it is only available on Mac OS X. Thanks.

The laptp has a one touch recovery key but dats not working. Also i have already ran chkdsk command and checked for registry , i ran antivirus , and removed junk files but stil it takes a lot to boot. The config are windows xp home edition dual core t 2390 1 gb ram

The problem is probably Windows. You can confirm this by booting into a Linux Live CD. If that boot goes pretty quick, then you know the problem is indeed with Windows and not faulty hardware (as your specs are theoretically good enough to boot XP in less than one minute). (And if you do end up trying out Linux, who knows, maybe you'll really like it!) Now, try downloading and installing EasyCleaner, run it, and remove startup items. That should help a little. If not, what you would need to do is make backup copies of all your important files and completely re-install XP. With Windows, it's a fact of live that you have to reinstall the operating system every once in a while. Just make the backups, pop in your restore or install CD, and commence with replacing your faulty/corrupt installation of XP with a nice, clean, new one.

Lenovo C200 8922 laptop
Has anyone had problems installing the software for a webcam on a Lenovo laptop?
I cannot install the Orion StarShoot Solar System Color Imager II ( www.telescopes.com )on my Lenovo C200 8922 laptop computer, for when I try installing the USB device, I get "this device cannot start (code 10)". The StarShoot is a webcam adapted for use on a telescope.

The lenovo y530 doesn't have that great of a graphics card - nvidia 9300, so it won't run autocad/cad programs well. Choose a more powerful laptop like the lenovo w700. Lenovo laptops are known for their reliability and excellent build quality.

All of the Lenovos I've seen have been very solid. They're not bad laptops. A similar laptop I've seen is the Dell E6400/6500. Looking at the design reminded me of it. Also, the Dell Lattitudes are similar. I've got one with a Nvidia Quadro card. I'll kind of help you on how to pick out a laptop so you can compare other stuff. *CAD needs a decent graphics card and processor. Get at least a Core 2 Duo or AMD X2. A Celeron or anything along those lines is asking for trouble. Get at least 2Ghz, though I'd recommend something more like 2.33/2.4. This part is usually expensive and a pain to upgrade. Graphics cards are a must. Do NOT under any circumstances, get anything with an Intel graphics chip. Those are complete trash. Optimally you'll want a Nvidia Quadro type card for CAD (can't game on them as well as a Geforce), but anything like an ATI HD 38xx or Geforce 9400M (or higher) will probably suit you. You generally can't upgrade this yourself. Also, a 8800M is about the same as a 9800M. Nvidia pulled a rename on that. RAM is cheap to upgrade. If you find a good computer without a lot of RAM you may want to just upgrade it yourself. $40 at most and you can do it in less than half an hour armed with just a Philips screwdriver. Watch the prices on the customization sites. They'll charge you $100 more if you're not careful. Hard drives are also easy to upgrade. For what it's worth, pretty much anything you get off the shelf (ie not customized online) will have a 250GB or even 320GB. I've seen $600 models with 3GB of RAM and 250GB drives. Get the screen size you want. 15.4" I will tell you is awful to carry around campus if your campus is large. I'd say 14.1" is a nice compromise. Consider getting an external display for your dorm room and/or a docking bay if you're using this as a desktop replacement. As far as extended warranties go (as laptops are good candidates for this), consider if you'll want the latest and greatest if/when it breaks, or if you just want it to be repaired. Figuring Moore's law, you can get double for your money in 2-2.5 years. Would you rather drop $300 or so on a extended warranty now, or put it towards a new one later?

how do I fix the annoying sound coming from the little fan on a lenovo n100 laptop?
It still works it just makes this really annoying clicking noise 80% of the time. Can I oil it? Is it something easy to repair myself. ??? Should I spray it with compressed air?HOW? will i need to take it apart?

taking a fan apart shouldnt be that hard but its a laptop i would be really careful compressed air shouldnt hurt it i wouldnt oil it just try screwing it back on tighter you might need to buy a new fan but if you know what your doing and have confidence in yourself you will fix it good luck!

Are you sure it is your fan? There is this thing hard drives do called the click of death. But if it is your fan shop vac the dust out. if that doesnt work shoot it with a computer cleaner (bout 5$ at a CVS) and immediately shop vac some more.

Probably a fan, it kicks on when the thermal sensor gets warm. You might try small bursts of air through the cooling port to possibly dislodge anything hitting the fan. Don't hit it long and sustained or you can over-rev the fan and kill it. If not, the most likely moving part is the hard drive. Neither respond well to oil.

Brunton Solar Roll 14 to a Lenovo t61 laptop
what is the best way to connect a Brunton Solar Roll 14 to a Lenovo t61 laptop? Anyone have experience?
i have a 'hipower' (generic brand) DC to DC car adapter specifically for my lenovo t61 that does indeed plug into the lbrunton 14, but all it succeeds in doing is make my lights flash in a rolling pattern and not seem to charge anything. need to find someone who has firsthand SUCCESS with brunton to laptop...any laptop

The Brunton comes with a vehicle power outlet cable (e.g., cigarette lighter outlet). You will need a corresponding Lenovo Thinkpad vehicle DC power supply for your laptop, which will plug in to the vehicle power outlet on the Brunton side, and the Thinkpad power jack. The laptop will need to be turned-off when recharging. Don't try to use a DC:AC inverter. With only 14W full output, that's insufficient power to drive the inverter and power supply.

First, have you done a system restore? If so, go into Control Panel @ start menu and select Backup and Restore Wizard. Select return system to earlier state or some variation of that. You might be lucky and it may have been backed up automatically.

Can I upgrade the video card in my Lenovo y410 laptop?
The Current card is a Mobile Intel 965 Express. Does not like the third dimension.

I am sorry to inform you but you can't upgrade the video chip on a laptop. Most laptops do not have a dedicated video card. Some do but even those are not upgradable due to they are soldered directly to the mother board. I hope this helped.
